Scarcity
Scarcity is when there is a shortness of supply for something. Crop and water scarcity is the most common problem found in the world. There is a shortness of crops and water so once they run out there will not be enough for everyone on this earth to survive. Scarcity can relate to kids because at times all children have to deal with scarcity. Whether it's not having enough money to buy their favorite toy, or no having enough candy to share with their friends, scarcity is something every child has to deal with.

Birtha, B. (2010). Lucky beans. Morton Grove, IL: Albert Whitman & Company.
Marshall Loman, a young boy living during the Great Depression, has a father who has lost his job and very little money but a lot of beans. They have so many beans that his Ma makes them every day for dinner. Marshall passes a display offering a free sewing machine to the person who guesses the correct amount of beans in the jar. Marshall sets out to determine the correct number of beans so that his Ma can have the sewing machine, which she needs badly. The book is based on stories Becky Birtha's grandmother told about the Great Depression in the African American community.
